What a great thread!

I think my Mum cured me of this temptation at an early stage in my life. She was constantly nicking bits of this and that. We went to Chartwell ( Winston Churchill's home of the stately variety) when I was 8, and Mum had a forest of cuttings sticking out of the top of her bag as we left. I was absolutely mortified! Nearly as ashamed as I was when she used to demand that my father stopped the car while she nipped round the back to get the bucket and spade out of the boot for any leftovers from horses on the road!!

Well you Auntie Elsie and my Mum would get on real well, my Mum told us a story about a holiday I Ireland  when she was in her 70's.They saw a bride in a car and decide to followit, Mum wanted to see the dress so she got out of the car, she was quickly ushered into the church with Dad just behind. After the service they tried to escape but there was none of it,one usher told her not be shy, just stand still while the pictures are taken, then everyone hugged the brise etc, well my dad wasn't going to miss that. Then they got talking to someone who turned out to tbe the Brised dad and they owned up, no matter they were told you are part of the fmily now, they did the reception and the whole thing,Dad even left a cheque for the couple, they loved that adventure.

As for nicking stuff, I dare not go there, but I will tell you one bit.
Mum liked a flutter at Beverley racecourse and she always had a shandy, the glass always went home, she used to say the prices were disgusting,to put in her own phrase and I quote exactyl " I'm not bloody well encouraging them" This was I might add the only swear word she knew.

One day I will tell you the story of the unlocked cupboard, the toilet rolls and the overpriced campsite.

She was smashing my Mum was.

Gillysdad, if there was anything you wished you'd grabbed from Floors but missed..... I have several tubs with ill gotten seeds from their garden.  OH aquired about a dozen seed pods & stuffed them in my handbag last autumn.  I felt so guilty I put several quid into the donations box.

I'm surprised they have anything left in their gardens, they must dread us showing up.
