Does anyone think the compost maker in the Aldi offers this week is worth buying.   I usually leave my compost 12 months to really break down, but now I have a smaller garden I would prefere to do it quicker.

sawfish

isn't it just an accelerator like dung, urine or chicken manure?

I've been using garotta, but this is my first year of making compost.
It says on the packet it contains microbes and enzymes to speed up
the process in 6-8 weeks.
This one is a lot cheaper 5kg for £3.99.
I might give it a go when the garotta has run out (which will be soon).

The gardening listing on their website made me laugh, at the end is a
solitary tin of tuna.  ::) why?

manicscousers

just as easy to use chicken pellets..or pee on it!  ;D ;D

telboy

Garotta is fine, but heat is essential at this time of year.
Pee on it - that helps!
And get the worms in!!!
Eskimo Nel was a great Inuit.

Two Choices

I agree with manicscouser..it's free, it's organic and you know exactly what's in it.
And after an hour of digging at this time of year, by golly it makes you feel better ;) :) :)

manicscousers

especially if you like your cuppas after a spot of hard work.. ;D

Definitely manicscousers....it's like an indian reservation on my plot!
T P T P ;)

TPTP ;D ;D ;D ;D love it,
I use it as well also great to move moles on ?
but I do have chicken manure ( have girls)  waiting for compost bin to be built down lottie so everything is in plastic bags down lottie and it rots down so quick.

hazelize_uk

this is going to sound soooooooo wierd and i cant believe im asking but i have to know!!!  my OH reckons he has read that its ok for 'man' wee to go on the compost but not my 'girly' wee!! whats that all about has he dreamt it up?? haha

teresa

Your OH has heard the story of men drinking Newcastle Brown Ale and watering the leeks on lottie to grow champion size leeks with it. But it is ment to be true. ;)
Girly stuff they think the tablets we take and the time of month makes it no good.  :P Fiddle sticks I have moved moles off lottie with mine and compost is fine but then I am on HRT.  :-[
The first one in the morning is the strongest so tell him to pee in a bottle ( that should be fun) :o but any time of day is ok and its all recycling waste products which is a good thing. 8)

Could it be something to do with hormones or the pill, hazel_ize? I don't know, just guessing.

Oops pipped at the post by teresa.

quizzical1  hee hee must have posted the same time,
Think its a mans idea ours is not so good.  :P so girls drink NBA  :-[

It's probably best not to 'contribute' if you are on antibiotics either.

Oestrogen doesn't decompose in the absence of oxygen and
can leach into groundwater and affect fish and amphibians.

cornykev

MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

manicscousers

I can contribute, due to age  ;D

Two Choices

Could make the lottie annual show interesting.  Pehaps we could have the girls versus the boys with a medal for the best colour and clarity..... and how about for the person with the best aim!!....better stop now,  it's getting silly ;D
