I got an email from Thomson and Morgan recently advertising a gadget that made paper pots. Has anyone tried it

no, toilet roll tubes  ;D

Either Emma or Sarah gave a good tip too, can't remember which of those to lovely ladies :P.

Roll the newspaper round the can, jar, whatever, to the last three inches then fold over the end from the top about half way down the length. continue rolling, fold the ends into the open end, slide the roll off - and voila! you have a sturdy pot which needs no paste or anything else. I used a spice jar as I wanted long tubes for starting off parsnips.

These are also very good.
Takes a bit of practice for the first couple then you can fly through them.

That's bloomin' brilliant!!

I got a Paper Potter for Xmas.  If I'd known about this I'd've asked for another bottle of whisky!
My allotment blog Plot326.  In it's infancy at the mo but in time it'll grow.

I've got a wooden paper pot maker  :)

Unfortunately Frank (75yr old guy we shared a lottie with) has had to give up due to ill-health, so we no longer have 'lurid' pots made out his copies of the Sunday Sport.

I always remember my little boy saying "LOOK mummy! Boobies on the bean pots!"

Now he have very intellectual pots made out of The Independent. Bit boring actually ... it's just not the SAME is it?

"LOOK mummy! An article about the political situation in North Korea on the cucumber pots!"

Boobie pots I might give them a go, thanks for the idea Trix.  :o ;D ;D ;D :P

I used the paperpots idea from here to start my BB off but someone else suggested toilet roll middles so i gave them ago too - problem is with those i have ended up with a furry mold developing, is it just the way i have used them and will it damage the plants? i have all the tubes stacked in a tray to support each other and so that i can bottom water but im very worried about the developing beards!!  shall i transplant them quick?? :o

Mouseski

We use loo rolls for peas and sweetcorn. They often go a bit furry - doesn't seem to affect the plants.  :)
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. (Douglas Adams 1952 - 2001)

I feel REALLY stupid but i just cannot do step six! i get completely lost is there a step in between that im too thick to work out! ::)

hopefully hopeful

You're not stupid, its odd to do the first couple of times.

I take it from stage 5, but unfold it again so you know where the center is,  take the botton left corner and take it to the middle fold, if you smooth the fold (like the side of a triangle) it leaves about an inch across the top.
Its like folding it into itself. :-\

Its tricky to explain, and took me a while but really clever when done right.

Sorry I cant explain it very well.
Next time I'll try and take some of my own photos.
Also practicing on plain paper may help.
