hi...i have a little 6x4 shed and cant decide where to put it...id like to put it opposite the greenhouse so the doors are facing each other with an area between...this would be along the short southern end of a narrow plot...would this be a problem for the next bed along in terms of shade? i thought about putting the water butt in the shady area next to the shed..would a compost bin be ok there too? the alternatives are....in the n.w. corner next to the artichkes and raspberries or right next to the greenhouse either to the north or south side of it...i see its main role in life as somewhere to drink tea, sit, shelter and a base around which to do jobs as well as storing tools .....any shed advice please...

Personally, I think the best place for your shed is on MY lottie ;).

I have placed my greenhouse and shed near to each other so that i can have them both feeding the water butts, the greenhouse will be throwing shade onto the shed, i also want them near each other as i do not want loads of paths on my allotment and this way i just have to extend the path to the shed to reach the greenhouse.

Hi Chuck

Sorry caroline I disagree IT SHOULD BE ON MINE!!!!!

Do agree with L  ... put them close so less space lost to paths

Good luck  ;D

My shed is in front of bramble bushes. If you plant veg along side bushes they are competing for the moisture from the same area of ground. The shed separating the veg area from the bushes eliminates this problem.

Hi Chuck,

My sheds too are next to brambles, thats because
we have to keep ours to the boundary line but has the advantage
of disguising the sheds and protecting them from small boys.

My tool shed has its long side facing the midday sun which became a
place to build a lean to tomato house and later my potting shed which also
has a side that faces into the sun for growing toms.

The shadey side of the shed houses four water butts that catch the run off
from the sheds. Above the water butts are three big metal brackets that are used
to store long pieces of timber and other clutter. One water butt has a brush and knife tied to it for first cleaning and trimming of veg as my plumbing at home can`t cope with allotment muck.

Close by, still on the shadey side of the shed is a two pallets by one pallet compost
enclosure. The shadey space is no use for growing anything except the brambles that sprawl over the top and hide the clutter. I have paved the spaces around around the water butts and compost heap because it get muddy and slippery there. Its a kind of utility area.

In front of the sheds is my "compound" where I have a bench and herb trough
a grass work/sitting area "lawn" and a stand for my bike. This is edged by flower beds, my cold frame and the door into my fruit cage.

I thought about placing my new greenhouse as part of the compound but instead have put it right at the other end of the plot where it will get more sun and make better use of growing space.
