Allotments 4 All

I know we have had lots of rain etc. but my soil is very wet.
In the Summer I have planted beetroot/lettuce etc. and all grew really well.
Should I add something to it before I want to start planting or just leave it to do it's own thing?

Do they say add mulch??? such as straw etc????  I know my plot is pretty water logged - the top half anyway. Of course you dont know these things in summer but now i do.  I too was wondering what i could do to help the situation other than drainage of course.

We had standing water on our lottie midweek, it had drained away but after all the rain yesterday it will be back!

I have not planted anything in my soil yet as it is too wet. Waiting for it to dry out a little. Gonna start sowing in seed trays this next week though.

mixing in muck of some sort will lighten wet, heavy soil, sand mixed in  as well  .also, as mulch breaks down, that helps as well..on the plus side, if we get a hot summer, the soil will keep damper  :)

Exactly the same here.  I had wanted to sow some seeds before now, but have managed to curb my beginners enthusiasm as our soil has been sticky & wet so far, and it's been quite cold here!

Calabrese Broccoli (early variety - cut&come again),
Saladin Lettuce (iceberg),
Kelvedon Wonder peas (gonna plant these in 18inch/2ft lengths of guttering for ease of transplanting. They are good for an early and late crop)
Brunswick red onion seeds

All will be sown in trays in the greenhouse.
