i have a pile of bricks and stuff at the end of my allotment that i have to move to sort out the compost bins (its about 8' long by 2' wide) and i suspect it might be home to creatures. i think now would be the best time to move it cos any later they may try and hibernate there, am i right?

i'm not going to move the big woodpile a bit further along at all so anyone i displace might go there.....

any advice?

We have just shredded the pile of branches near the compost bins and moved the big sack of stuff ( the do not put on the compost heap stuff) and you should have seen the frogs and toads and newts underneath. But now? not one in sight. Just watch where you push in you fork, it is hard wiping skewered frog of the tines! It is the best time to do it as they have not yet settled down to hibernate so there is time for them to re-settle. Have fun.

I was moving all my plastic seedling trays and spotted a newt (a common one) and my plot has loads of frogs on it. I'm making a logpile at one end for them to hibernate in. -BB
