i've used this before.....i used the one with the hot water. even though it's fantastic and kills everything in a few days....you have to be very careful. salt and plants don't go together well. if you aciddently spray it in the wrong place...you'll kill the wrong plant. also if you spray it on a path and it washes off onto your lawn.....it can kill that aswell.

it's something they used to do a long time ago in war. once they had taken hold of a piece of land, they would dig barrel fulls of salt into the fields so that the land would be barren for years and years. obviously it's now illegal.

If anyone's got  a Bible, there's an account of exactly that in Judges 9:34-45; a guy called Abimelech is described as having destroyed the city of Shechem and 'sowed it with salt'. In Jeremiah 17:5-6 there's a curse which involves living 'in an uninhabited salt land'. of course, the Middle East has plenty of salt, and land which is unusable because of it would have been familiar to people living there.

So when Samuel L Jackson's character in Pulp Fiction says "..I'm going to get Biblical on your ass" he's threateniong to get out the salt cellar ..

Can't see how either of those are organic ???

Georgie

I never thought I'd find myself agreeing with MT but on this occasion I do!  I wouldn't dream of putting either of those concoctions on my plants.

Sorry, MT, but I just couldn't resist it.   ;D

Teresa, I use a weed wand on my driveway for the more difficult weeds like docs and dandylions.  It's a mini flamethrower.  It takes lots of persistence, little and often, but it works.

I use a kettle of plain boiling water on the driveway, it works - and it's got to be organic, water!  ;D

If you can't be a good example -- then you'll just have to be a horrible warning....

Sorry to be a party pooper but this isn't organic
"4 cups of white vinegar
1/4 cup of salt,
2 teaspoons of washing up liq."

This is 4 cups of dilute acetic acid
1/4 cup sodium chloride with magnesium carbonate as an anti caking agent
2 teaspoons of ionic surfactants, phosphates and non ionic surfactants and probably a load of caustic soda aka Sodium hydroxide.

Just because they are in the house doesn't mean they are organic. Personally prefer glyphosphate, its been designed to kill weeds, been studied on how it breaks down in the soil and I know the concentrations and its toxicity. Mixing stuff in the kitchen can lead to some serious problems.
