This morning I got my seeds together and sorted them out into sowing order, plus I fialised my sowing and planting out charts. see here;

One column equals a bed, plus I can see at a glance how many I need sow/prick out.

OMG where's my <swoons in admiration> smiley  ;)  ;D  You're so much more organised that we are, I thought I was doing well too!  :-\

May I ask, what's on your sowing & planting out plans - is it a log of when you intend to sow/transplant each crop?  We've done a list of what crops are going in what beds, but i've no idea about when we're going to sow each one yet?

What I do is get all my seeds together as in pic1

I then list them alphabetically in a 'data base'

I then go to the alphabetic index on my website; http://tinyurl.com/yn57zu and check up on the sowing / cutting date for each.

Once this is done I do a 'data base filter' to put the seeds into sowing / cutting order.

Then I print it off (pic 3)

Then I sort the packets out into sowing order (pic 2)

Pic 4 is a graphic plan of my allotments.

I use one column per bed and a row per row of plants.

I also mark how many plants per row so that I know how many plants to prick out.

I generally add a few more for possible losses.

I find this save me growing on more than I need meaning I save on,time, compost and coldframe space.

Think I may have to start sorting -  ???

have got seeds but still checking the details on the packets and trying to work out how much space is going to be needed - also what of everything will I want to grow ??  ie how many onions do or did we eat in a year ???

Mrs Ava

No wonder your allotment is picture perfect TG.  Impressive and organised.

Fantastic organisation TG  :)

I do the sorting and the date-order, but when it comes to planting I just go out and chuck 'em all in!

Funnily enough, Jack (my FIL) had the 'big talk' with me today about planting PRECISELY. There was even talk about having a stick with measurements on it for the potatoes  8)

He'd love to meet you and complain about me  ;D If you fancy a trip to Nottingham it would probably lower his blood pressure!

Wow TG

This is my first year with a vegetable patch and I spend over six hours yesterday trying to sort out my seeds and I am still confused.  I found a mini Vegetable Expert book that I had forgotten I had, looked up each vegetable that was applicable and then wrote (I thought) instructions for each on a mini calender.  I then tried to transfer this information onto a hand written chart.  What I nightmare, I realised that I had missed out loads of information.

I am ok on a spread sheet, and having viewed your very concise website I will now start again and hopefully get a more acurate plan!  I am a bit of a 'list' person so this is ideal for me.  Just one question, where I live the climate is much like the Scilly Isles so we can apparently plant early (good being as excited as I am).  I understand from the Vegetable Guide that planting times have to be adjusted for your area.  Which part of the UK does your websites planting times refer to?

I am very glad that I read this post!
