I have got quite a few shallots left over from last year, can they be used for sets this year?

If they've been stored well and show no signs of fungi or mildew you should do OK. Keep an eye out for any that don't start to leaf and change them.
If you have plenty, plant 2 together and take out the weaker one later.

thanks for the replies, will plant some of them.

I have read somewhere that its better to plant smaller saved ones than those that are too fat.

I certainly hope mine do!!

What I did last year was go to one of the local village shows that had an auction afterwards and bought up all the prize winners.

I had a look at them this morning and they look as good now as they did on the showbench, so fingers crossed!

Put in a row today of last years saved shallots, I just I not too early. The weather has been so mild in Kent - it feels like I should be planting and the soil seems resdy.
