I want a security plant for my side alley- which has a concrete floor, but I could break holes in to plant (but soil not going to be very good), and plant will need to grow tall and be trained along a trellis. I want plant to be thorny but not bushy like pyracantha, as it is a narrow alley and plant will be about head height- hence danger of getting thorns in the face! I thought maybe a thorny blackberry variety? is there anything that would be better? Would ideally like something that is a quicker grower and if it looks nice, that would be a bonus.
thanks

I had a site bookmarked once (but seem to have lost it now) covering all sorts of pricklies !

Just did a google and found this one ....

i'd throw some broken glass in there too but don't suppose that's allowed.

The trouble with a lot of these suggestions is that the fast growers need a lot of trimming to stop them waving about. Pyracantha can be fan trained and only needs pruning back twice a year. Grow something really nice and unusual with a sign warning people that the plant is deadly poisonous to touch and can cause a rash.
