hi
im looking to buy ryobi garden cultivator lightweight it runs on 2 stroke. has anyone got 1 of these im not sure if it would be any good for lottie its quite confusing looking at rotovators/cultivators when your a newbie any help would be appriecated thanks

hello flatcap, I don't use one myself, but if you do a search on this site under 'cultivator', Ryobi, or 'rotovator/rotaveter' in this forum, several people have commented on the Ryobi and your search might turn up a few tips :)

We have a rotavator which is an altogether heavier affair.  I've never used a cultivator, but one of my allotment neighbours has a Mantis 2-stroke, which he loves.  They do different things, really.

The cultivator is excellent at doing the final preparation of the beds, breaking the soil down to a tilth.  Don't overdo it, or you'll pulverise the soil completely.  :o

The cultivator isn't intended for turning over the soil deeply, which a rotavator will do.  Neither machine should be used on perennial weeds, which will merrily come up again tenfold.  The adverts show that you can use a cultivator as a hoe, but my observation of my neighbour's usage suggests that it has too violent an action to be practical for that purpose.
