Hi Guys,

Still in trying to pack but managed to go down to the lotty today.

I was doing a little weeding and accidently dug up a garlic bulb.

- it was a shop bought one rather than from a garden center ( hubbie bought a net of 3 instead of one so i split them up and planted about 10 of the largest cloves )

I was quite suprised though they would have either rotted and died or just be the same as they have only been planted 2/3 weeks this bulb however had a large root system and looks like it was doing well.

( excited now garlic and holiday)

Thank you to all who donated to the Moonlight Half Marathon Walk in aid of St Catherine's Hospice - my mum and I raised just over £300!!!    ............     Thanks!  :-)

I planted 3 rows on 9. November - 2 from bulbs saved from last year and one from a head of seven really large cloves bought at Morrison's.  Guess what? - the cloves from Morrison's are already showing shoots an inch above ground 8). Nothing, as yet, from my saved Solent wight's (or was it the Purple Wight  :-[) forgot to make a note - duh! I haven't planted as many as last year as I still have quite a lot hanging in the shed, along with all the butternut squashes and a pumpkin :).

The problems with garlic sold to eat are:

It could well be a variety that grows well in the heat of Spain or France but not necessarily the UK

They may have disease, the main one being eelworm

Regards

Phil

PS I also do bah humbug in 24 days!!  ;)
