It's not as sweet as the shop one, not as orange either... that may be the variety or the lack of decent sunshine this far North!

How did you feed them Saddad?  I get quite a lot of liquid comfrey feed - would that do the trick?  Is there a special timing to it?

saddad

I didn't feed the small ones under plastic at all..  :-X
This one got some tomato feed about three times, when I remembered, I'm sure Comfrey feed would be great and they like a lot of Potash... bonfire ash being good, they are used a lot in slash and Burn in the tropics...

OH fell off his chair when he saw this !  wonder if there is a world record size ?

saddad

Don't start that again Mc55... I spent a fruitless 30 mins trying to get that idea through to GBRecords...

THAT'S NOT A SWEET POTATO! IT'S A CASEY BALL  ;D

This has inspired me to try and grow them next year as well. Just looked on the T+M site but they're not there? Marshalls don't have them either. Maybe they only have what's in season on their sites???

Have ordered a catalogue from Chase Organics though .. thanks for the tip Saddad  :)

P.S. My favourite recipe for sweet potatoes = peel, slice and roast them with turmeric, black onion seeds and garlic (in olive oil!) SLUUUUURP!

artichoke

I was at my daughter's house looking after her baby while she worked,  and happened to spot on a high shelf (looking for something to make apple crumble in) a bowl FULL of sprouting sweet potatoes. Sprouts about three inches long! Forgot to take them home with me, but will ask her not to throw them away if she suddenly remembers them.

But it's the wrong time of year....do you think it will work if I put all the sprouts into jam jars to grow roots, then pot them up in a month until it is warm enough to plant them?

Now I'm out of my depth Artichoke...
