While everyone is on the subject of shrooms got some meadow wax caps today.

First time we have eaten them and we fried up half of what we had collected in garlic with red peppers (its what we had lying around)

Really nice and meaty taste. After searching the internet couldnt find much info on these apart from that they are common here in the peak district (and edible  :D)

Anyone come across these before?

I'm pretty sure I've seen it, but I haven't eaten it. If we're both talking about the same species, that is. Any chance of a pic?

glow777

Hard to get pic because Ive just eaten them all!
food is getting very strange at the moment - smoked eel on crusty bread planned for dinner!

Anyway courtesy of the Internet

a little on the small size but theseare spot on what we had - highly recommended

Those look like the pics I found, but they look like two different species to me! I found the bottom one assigned to three different genera, and it's not in my books under any of those names. So I'm not sure what they are! But the bottom one looks familiar.

-Where on earth did you get smoked eel from?  :o It's the best! -On rye bread with scrambled egg... that's how we eat it in Denmark (where I'm from) anyway. I've never seen it over here! -sorry to go off track a bit... ::)

Would you believe from Waitrose (loved to of said smoked it myself - though I have caught a few nice uns in the past)

They were selling 2 6"X 3/4" fillets for £4.69 an had reduced them down to 79p so I though it deserved a try. Will definately try again but not ar £4.00+

Would go well with scrambled eggs if the hens ever come out of the moult

Back mushrooming Wednesday and shooting Thursday so hopefully will be able to have wax caps with rabbit Friday tea time ;D

Well, next time I miss home, I'm off to Waitrose! ::)
Rabbit sounds more adventurous to me, but maybe that's because of my daughter's lovely little furball out in the garden.... -silly really.

Robert
Went again today and got a couple of pound

Incidentally these are growing amongst 4 or 5 different types of other fungi that appear very very similar but arnt wax caps and may indeed be inedible. Little signs give them away. Such as the gnome and the fishing rod.

If I dont post again I've picked the wrong ones.

Joking aside I go picking with a very qualified mushroom person. If you ain't sure don't eat it - or give it the wife.
