HI

I have just noticed that some of my potaotes have got little green fruit growing on them like little green tomatoes.

Are the potatoes still ok:?

What are they?

help!

Kepouros

Those are seed pods (poisonous).  The potatoes are fine

can the seeds be used?

Do you know if the potatoes are OK

Merry Tiller

Yes, the seeds can be used, I saved some from my Salad Blue spuds last year, I'm looking forward to finding out what I've grown next month when I dig them up

intresting

  • How do i get the seeds from the fruit?
  • When should i plant them?

Merry Tiller

I used the same technique as I use for tomatoes, ferment the contents of the ripe fruit in a jamjar for a few days then wash & dry them. I sowed them i March, the seedlings were very tiny and don't forget they're tender

You should get a variety of different sorts of potatoes from them - some early, some seconds, some lates - it is a case of harvesting, sampling and choosing the potatoes you want - you then use the seed potatoes to keep the new strain going.
