If you are happen to be in Ikea, they have glass jars for preserving etc similar to kilner jars at the following prices - seems very cheap to me!

0.5 litre - 0.99p
1 litre - 1.49p
2 litre - 1.99p

They also have bottles for fruit syrup etc but can't remember the price.

Not the first place i would have thought of looking!

I took a look at those periwinkle, and there was a notice saying 'suitable for the storing of dry foodstuffs' or something ??? It might be worth testing a sample to see if they're up to the pressure of preserving - if they are it's a bargain!

There are 2 sorts - one with a sort of metal top with the sign like you say SS. The ones with a glass top with the metal hingey thing have a notice saying suitable for preserving - and the bottles say suitable for fruit syrup.

Found the link  ;D

Sparkly

what are the delivery costs like?

prink13

COMPLICATED!  ::)

Basically if you live in mainland UK, and not rural Scotland, then it's £5.95 per order

If you live anywhere else it's too confusing to explain!  ;D

I have just bought six x .75 litre preserving jars from a garden centre in France.  They were about 13 Euros for the pack ie. about £ 8.60.  I later saw them for 12 Euros in one of the Hypermarkets.

Have a look in the shed for the other things I bought whilst over there.

This looks like a useful site for preserving jars and traditional kitchenware amongst other things...
