I want to stuff the beef toms, but they are far to delectable for the usual baked recipes.

So, need a raw recipe - can't find one anywhere in all my books or on the net.

Do you like cottage cheese tim?
My mum used to stuff her whopper yellow toms, they took a small tub each :o
Mixed with chopped fresh chives.
No extra charge for mentioning chives ;)
Or you could be posh and use ricotta ;D

Or use as mini soup bowls for iced gazpacho?
:P :P :P

Or you could make a simple prawn cocktail mix, scoop out the tomato flesh and put the mix in - garnished with home grown mixed salad leaves and cucumber.  I like this, because you've got the fresh taste of the toms and garnish, with a hint of spice from the tabasco, and I love shellfish.

Great ideas - thank you.

One problem about stuffing anything, I find, is that you need far more things to be stuffed than you set out with.

Just look at this - my first attempt. Started with one large tom - thought crab - mint - basil - chilli - my first red pepper - &, to thicken, couscous with raisins.

Couldn't fit cucumbers in!!

But I now have at least 2 toms - one without its inside - to take all that stuffing!!

Any advance??

PS Yes, love cottage cheese etc.

stuff some cucumbers with the left-overs, Tim. Been stuffing cucumbers for a couple of weeks now 8)

Good thinking, Lishka!

With hindsight - brown or wild rice would have been better than coucous, but more trouble - &, even though there was about £2worth of white crab meat there, I can't honestly say that I was impressed.

But the tomatoes were nice!!

What a shame, Tim! The pic of the ingredients looked so attractive I was sure it was going to be a winner :-\  Will you not 'do' crab again or would you consider crab + something else, ie a cream cheese + herbs, etc?

tim

I reckon the cheesy thing sounds good on its own!

I'll save my crab for its usual purpose - supper snack with avoc & mayo etc.

greyhound

How about tuna mashed with some cream cheese and mayo, spiked with some anchovies and/or capers.

tim

Worth a go?

This is how it looked last  night.

keef

Although that looks a bit like somthing out of an early 70's cook book  ;D , I bet it was nice - my try somthing like it for tea.

Think I know where you're coming from Keef.....but it was always three undressed (ooer!) lettuce leaves arranged as 'serving suggestions'?

Think chard is very this millenium 8)

Pandero is SO tasty, Lishka, that it needs no dressing!

Have a look here.  Some of them are quite frightening.  ::)

Hilarious greyhound, some of these are downright sinister!
I reckon that onion sauce was from Quentin Tarantino's early career ;D

Moggle

A filling of feta, olives and mint/basil might be nice too. Bit of avocado might go well with that also.
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

Greyhound, that site is brilliant!  ;D Used to be another one with cookbooks in the US as well, aptly named Recipes of the Damned. http://www.batemania.com/recipes/020800.html
This year it's squash.

MonsterMum

What about a nice homemade creamy coleslaw?

tim

Coleslaw? No cabbage at present.
Moggle - could be!

The '70's?? Get up-to-date with my SERIOUS cookbook??

Oh, by the way, Lishka, I did add a bit of Virgin toward the end!
