Allotments 4 All

This year I used chicken pellets for the first time, I used at a rate of a plastic cupfull every square yard. The result -no onions, no shallots and even no weeds. nothing has grown at all I`ve tried radish, lettuce, carrots. the patch is now a vurtual desert. Whats have i done?

Strange. I have used them aroung squashes and beans and all seems well. I must admit to being a bit casual about measuring though, just scattered a heap or two about!

Are you sure they've not sold you rock salt by mistake???! :P

How strange...never had a problem with it myself, suggest maybe try again next year on a small area and see what happens?

Could it be the weather that has caused the desert?
I have used chicken pellets before and not had any trouble.
I haven't used them this year, and have a desert instead of an onion bed. Really frustrating after 2 good onion years.
Classic gardeners saying - there's always next year...

I can't see any way it's connected to using chicken pellets. They're the most common ferteliser in use on our site and people swear by them either scattered or watered on.
Germination of anything is proving a trial this year.

I used chicken pellets too but i don't measure just throw them on and everything is fine and growing. I would say it the lack of water...

Just a thought, would fox's be attracted by it? ??? as they like chickens, if they sniff pellets they may dig around and kill off your plants/seedlings?

I useually dillute chicken poo in a bucket of water and pour it on the plants, serves a double purpose ;D
