Hi all,

My second earlies/maincrops are beginning to go over.

I haven't got anywhere near finishing my first earlies yet so I am wondering if I can leave them where they are and dig them up as I need them. I think they are Kestrel.  Also if I can leave them should I cut the stalks off?

Definately. cut the stalks of and you can leave them in the ground for a couple of months and harvest them whenever you need them. Of course, they will stop growing, the only other 'side-effect' is that the longer they are in the ground, the thicker the skins will become (but this has never bothered me.

I will not begin to harvest my second earlies until the end of July, through August, for consumption until October if there are enough.  As for my maincrop, I will not lift these until September, for keeping all through the winter. I never bother chopping stalks.

But beware the slime monsters!  If your plot is prone to slugerama damage, then spuds left in to long might get attacked!
