Has anyone else had a bad year with pea weavils this year, my peas have been stuck and about 3" for the last month cause the little blighters keep munching them - any suggestions on how to rid them?

The weevils munched this year but the peas grew anyway. I did have the prob last year though keef. Gave them a puff of Derris dust after rain, in the early morning when the dew is on, or after watering - it only needed one application last year, then the peas were away. Puff on the soil as well as the leaves :)

Some early munching but peas soon pulled away. With the rain it looks like being a good crop, Frau Heinrich already 4' and flowering for the last week, Purple Podded started flowering this week just in time for the open day! Magnum Bonum and Sugar snap already more than 3' tall..... now if there was anything to see in the root beds!

I've had some kind of beasite eating the leaves of my peas, the leaf edges have become serrated. Is that what the pea weavil does?

As a kind of experiment I grew some peas without protection, some with a collar made of half a pop bottle pushed into the ground (with top cut off) and also some with the top half of a bottle with lid removed. Needless to say the covered ones did best and had the least amount of leaves munched.

I have to protect mine with fine rigid netting from sowing until they are about 3 inches tall otherwise the mice/voles/birds help themselves.  This year I had spare cloches so kept them cosy for much longer than I would have nornally and they are untouched by buggies!  In fact, I am hoping to nip up there this afternoon and pick our first bowl full!

A little puff of derris does seem to work wonders for my radish and turnips so I think it would do the peas also.

yep, that's the evil weevil :P

ah well, yet another creature that needs a good stomping on should I ever catch one.

You won't like flea beetle they have a good self preservation streak!
