On checking MrsKP's pretty maids, the blue crates I am buying for 10p (just to prevent a rush to the fruit shop) are the mesh ones I have seen on a photo Tim posted.  Not the solid ones MrsKP has.

10p for one of those? 10p? :o  they're the ones I get free at Aldi on Sundays 8) - they put them out by the bottle bank (which I invariably happen to be visiting.....)

If you have one drill a hole with a spade bit, get a jigsaw blade in there and in seconds the bottom is gone with next to no smell!

What a good idea! Shall velcro the Barbie pink crates too and I'm sure I've got some diamante bits left over from doing up me wellies last winter...what else is there to do on a wet Sunday afternoon?

Thanks, KP ;) ;D

Not quite the same as black buckets, but our local morrisons is selling black and green grape vines.
I bouht one (black) last year and it is going great guns! :D  Bought two more this month, have been looing out for them for ages. They are a hardy variety and only cost a couple of quid so vimo here we come, hick!
when the going gets tough..........

Went to morries this morning,  I got some lovely hibiscus £2.45 each. They do well down here in the garden for the summer. Then I shall chop them back and over-winter them in the poly. Missus has nicked one for the kitchen window sill, the last one she had there had a flower every day for about 10 months.

I have a hot spot in the garden where I have mirabalis, datura, hibiscus and a bourgainvillea. All of these have been purchased at supermarkets at very reasonable prices. Cut them down when the frosts start and chuck them in a corner of the poly until the frosts are over.

I got some of the elusive buckets, don't know why really ??? I expect they will come in for something one day.

Hyacinth

ACE you're growing my two most fave...hibiscus and bougainvillea...didn't know booglie could do so well here. Love it.

and buying black buckets just cos they were there? Winding me up...you're ALL winding me up.  :'( ;) ;D

MrsKP

i'd love to grow something like bougainvillea but don't think it would like being drown 28 days out of 30.

see bucket - have bucket !  don't give up Lish, there'll be buckets for you yet (after the season has finished obviously).   :P

Now there is the trick, keep it in a big pot, south, south/west facing wall, and cover the compost to keep  most of the rain out. They do not like a lot of water but love being sprayed on a warm evening.

You will have to remember our climate on the island gives us a longer growing season, why do you think I live here.

Hyacinth

let's all have our meet-up on ACE's island ;D......

KP I've sort of solved me bucket problem...remember that I swiped all the baskets they had on the shelves yesterday at Wilkos - 6 Barbies & 2 blue? Well, drove back from Morries wet and fed up & called in Wilkos....they'd got tubs, big enough size, 45p each( :() - but just eight of them.....a sign! but £3.60 against 80p ain't the best bargain of the day :-\

So! 7 toms and 1 g/house cuc (Marketmore) now have homes.....deciding which tom is problematic - my gardening book's been left out on a table in the rain for the past 3 days or so. All my careful notes a blue blur.....

ACE

Prepare to repel boarders! As the ferries will charge you over £60 for the weekend, I don't think you will have many takers. But if you have any beachwear like the girl in the watershed you could always try and swim across ;D. As there is a glut of black buckets here, you could put one on each foot and walk back.

With abject apologies to Alishka.............I took neighbour for her weekly shopping trip to morrisons as her car was out of action otherwise I would never have gone (Asda girl me  ;D ) and was attracted by some wonderful blue senetii that I'd been hankering after and there beside them were the elusive black buckets 8 for a £1  :) So I had to didn't I.   ;)
