In a mad moment in between showers today I decided to turn my dalek compost bins - blimey hard work!!   :o  Anyway I was pleased to see some action had been taking place in there but I have to say that when I shovelled it all back in I didn't really notice any worms.

They have been stood on bare ground and there were loads of ants and ant eggs.  I water them periodically as I thought ants indicated it might be too dry.  Are the ants doing any harm and where are my worms?? ???

The ants move in because it's a nice warm place to be, so don't worry about them. How long has the stuff been in there?

Thanks Robert.  I started composting around end of Jan so I was quite pleased to see the bottom layer was looking good!

It'll soon rot now, and as it does so the worms will move in.

I have thousands of Brandlings in my bin at home and have done since it went in - apart from last year when the rat ate a lot of them.  My bins up the lotty though don't have any and they have been operating for about a year.
