The flea beetles have been busy... They just laughed at the net curtains I used to covered my crops (they jump straight through it >:(). My oriental saladini are growing vigorously, but are now full of little holes. Not too appetising in salads... So I need non-salad recipes! I've already used some to make soup, in an ommelette and a stir fry. Any more ideas?

Erm, how about:

Potato and kidney bean patties:
Wilt leaves quickly in wok and roughly chop
Mix with seasoned mashed potato
and 1 can of drained kidney beans roughly mashed with a fork
Add a bit of cumin and paprika
Shape into patties and dunk in seasoned flour
Shallow fry

Just make up the quantities  ;)

Serve with salad and a quick warm tomato salsa.

I made this recipe up the other day when I had a load of spring cabbage to get rid of. They were really tasty.

I think it's a bit late for that now... If I were to pull the plants up and re-sow in the same spot - this time with rocket as I have no oriental saladini seed left- and use fleece from the start, will this work? Or will the flea beetles emerge from the soil?

Think it will be ok to sow almost any kind of salad/leafy things under fleece now. I have just put some lollo rosso out with no fleece and they are surviving. They are supposed to be less attractive to slugs...hmmm, last year proved this to be a fib! They only munched the outside leaves though, and as i prefer to be organic I am happy to share!!

Chuck more seeds in and enjoy!

;D
