Have just bought 2 rasberries (3 canes each) and 2 gooseberries from "Instore" for £2 each (seemed quite reasonable to me  ;) ) but now realise I have no idea how to plant them etc...   there is no details to variety on the packaging so could someone give me a quick "idiots" guide as to how to plant them etc pls??

thanks  :)  Becca :)

Gooseberries - plant them around 4 ft apart  at the same level they were planted, i.e. there should be a shortish piece of bare stem emerging from the ground like a little tree trunk, maybe 6-9" high, then the branches start after that.
Raspberries - plant them about 2 -3  ft apart, with plenty of good well rotted manure dug into the soil. Woody stems should be above ground, and there may be whitish shoots starting to come from the root area, just make sure they are a little below soil level.

Think I planted my raspberries too deep- only two of them are showing any growth. Should autumn varieties be showing by now?

My Autumn Bliss are showing now, in spite of the fact that I had to move them around November.

Mine too, only one plant is rather reluctant, but I think it got planted a bit too deep, so I've tugged at it a bit and I can see a tiny shoot, so maybe it will catch up. I've mulched the plants with compost from my composter - is there anything else I should be doing at this time?
