We've had the gales for a few days Pat but when I woke up the morning everything was lovely and peaceful for a change. ;D

Then I opened the curtains!  :o

Back to winter with a big bang!

We've got over an inch of snow and it's still falling.  No gardening for me again this weekend then.  :'( :'(

Cheers Eileen.

It's blowing a gale up here in the tropical north  :-\ . Driving to work this morning the car nearly tipped over going round a corner  :o .

The damage has already started down the site, polytunnels ripped to shreds, glass blown out of greenhouses and fencing blown all over the place, one piece was found in South Shields 11 miles away ;D ;D ;D .

On the good side, man can I fly a kite it soars into the stratosphere  ;D ;) .

eileen

Good to know you can still look on the bright side!!

Hope the winds die down before they do any more damage.

11 miles, now that is really something  :o

Cheers Eileen.

Here in London we have heavy rain and strong wind again (I was nearly blown over on the way to the station!)

Back to hibernation for me - winter is most definitely winning the battle over spring this weekend.

Luckily I hadn't planned to start digging the pond until the following weekend.
gone to pot :D

Ceri

And yet again, my NGOH has promised a day in the lottie on Saturday and Sunday for Mothering Sunday - does this man have a hot line to God to arrange the weather so he doesn't have to keep his gardening promises?

jethro

Hi Eileen, I always look on the bright side  ;D life's too short to whinge about things  ;D  ;) . The kite's strings just snapped so if anyone in France finds a kite it's mine  ;D . It's a ordinary looking kite with a dragon on it and a long multi-coloured tail.

I might try flying the fence ??? should be an interesting experience  ;D .

The sun has come out here, but it was a bit wild earlier.

Scarey windy land here, I too almost got blown over trying to get to me car.  Have bought a shed from nice lady on ebay, and was gonna collect it/put it up this weekend but I think not now...

The daffodils are having a hard time of it.... :-[

Ceri

and..... first damage - one of my fence panels has just blasted across the back garden.  I'm working up the strength to go out with my next door neighbour and pick it up!  Ah well, at least our dogs will be able to play together today!

Sparky

Is this weather supposed to last through this weekend?  Was starting to get excited about planting my spuds and shallots but looks like i may have to wait!! :'(

The sun has come out here in Hertfordshire but I think it is all going to start up again later on today.

Oz - don't think it is too brill as some poor soul was killed recently when a tree fell on his car near where we live, so be careful out there :-* ;)

No gardening for me this weekend though I fear. :(
Happy gardening all...........Pat

Fingle....

Im with you Ozzy.....bloody love it

Altho last time it was windy a pane of glass on the roof of me shed d**n near flew into my head !!

legless

its bright but windy - glad i got the glasshouse down before this came!

i am still (barring lots of active rain) planning on getting my potatoes in tomorrow, hubby is driving to london in a couple of hours for a stag night, i think he's a fool.

your kite went over a few minutes ago jethro - headed for norway!

aquilegia

Jethro - I love kite flying. Hubby and I used to make them and then go play with them. fantastic (especially now I have got over my fear of kites - but what if it flies off with me - strange woman!)

Hailing here a minute ago. Very glad I left a double layer of fleece on my baby salad bowl (ie - a pot with newly sowed lettuce, radish and rocket).
gone to pot :D

jethro

Hi legless thanks, right anyone in Norway if you find a kite it's mine  ;D .

Hi Aqua, i have a 'power kite' but it lifts me off my feet in a breeze, the sail is 10ft square, the rope is 1 inch thick, it usually takes 2 of us to fly it or it to fly us which ever comes first  ;D, naturally invented it myself  ::) so if i take it out today i'll end up in Norway  ;D but there again it's a cheap way to travel  ;D and i might find my other kite  :-\ .

aquilegia

Jethro -  :o :o :o as an 8-stone weakling, I think I would end up in Norway, even on a still day!

I was just going to report that it is sunny in London, but it's not anymore. The tree looks a lot stiller, but the tv aerial is still partying away!
gone to pot :D

Blue skies, then rain and heavy gusts of wind all afternoon.  Still looking out for Jethro's kite.  Husband feeling very smug as he battled up to the allotment this morning and managed to get a bit of work done before the showers.  While I was lunching with my daughter in Newcastle - hope to get cracking tomorrow weather willing.  Hope it is okay Ceri and you manage to get that promise fulfilled at last. Oz you are a poet!  ;D busy_lizzie

jethro

Hi Aqua, I'm not much heavier than you  :o ;) and the b*gger takes some holding  ;D , but i tie myself to a tree and hope for the best  :-\ , well till the tree bends then i start to panic a bit  ;) .

mysticmog

Careful with them powerkites - me friend got picked up in a gust, gust stopped gusting, and dropped him onto some rocks - broken ribs, broken collarbone...

Kite seen flying over Meadowhall at 16.00...fly free little plastic kite  ;D
