Hi Gang, ;) just scavenged this Burner from our local yearly Council spring clean and was wondering if anyone has one of these if so can you tell me what the rusty bits are for in the second picture, I can’t quite fathom out where they go, any ideas? ???
Looks like it may be ideal for a brew up, or a fried egg sarnie. ;D

???

Not sure, but think the long bits look like a Hibachi type thing. You stick them in vertically, so that they wedge themselves in, then rest the round bit in to create a horizontal cooking surface. Not easy to explain, will try again if it will help!!

;)

From googling images for cast iron barbeques, I think I've got a picture which might help.  The three metal bits are to fix around the base, to adjust the height of the cooking grill, as Katy says.

No idea what the extra round bit is for.  Maybe it slots into one of the bits to put your kettle on?  ;)

the smaller round thing slots into the teeth of the bigger upright things to get food out of the way of the direct heat.

;D Thanks for the replies and images Guys I can see now where they go, it just raises the main grill away from the heat.

Just got to clean it up a bit and add an extra leg, then it's on it's way to the plotty. ;D

BAGGY

I think the flat square bits go in the grid vertically so you can put skewers in ?  Does the little grid fit in the bottom of the kettle exactly or is there some space between the base and the grid.  in whihc case maybe the charcoal/wood goes on that so that the bottom doesnt heat up too mu ch??

100 scavenging points there, well done!!

;D I think you have all scored high points so far and I thank you as I didn't have a clue, well praps just a bit. ::) :P

I have cleaned it up a little bit and assembled the odd bits of metal so I can now see it taking shape. 8)

Baggy seems to have sewn it up, so with his judgement I will be placing the coals on the lower grill so as the ashes will drop down in the pot. ;D

Wat dya fink? is that right? ;) ;D

Or should the coals be in the bottom pot ??? ::) :P ;D

DenBee

Well done you.

Here's another image to show you just how well you (and Baggy) did.  :D

As for where the coals go - I would think on the round plate in the base, and that the bowl at the bottom is where the ash goes.  But that's a stab in the dark, since the only type of barbeque I've ever used is the disposable ones from the supermarket.  ;)

That's a fairly typical arrangement; I use a kettle barbecue, but it has a similar setup with the coals sitting on a grid.

Curryandchips

I have an identical one on my plot ... having seen yours, I must check it is still there !!!
The impossible is just a journey away ...

Baggy, you don't even have to say how decrepit, sorry, how old you are...  ;D  (Ducks and runs for cover)

::) ;D ::) ;D ::) ;D ::) ;D
I'm guessing you have links with the Scouting Movement?

Sheldon, Birmingham.  I've put the pin on Google Earth where my shed is, in the allotments.  It's in an area with a satellite photo which is cool!  You can't miss it, there's a bl**dy great big Airport next door!

BAGGY

Yes, I'm a cub leader.  And I firmly believe that age is just a number.  Any way the cubs think I am one of them (8 - 10 year olds) and that doesn't seem such a bad idea.  ;D
