Hi Gem/all,
Just finished a shallow pond, marsh area on my lottie.I had a naturally bowl shaped shallow on the undug/scaped area to the side of my raised beds.I simply lay pond liner over, and in it, raised the outer edges slightly with clay like soil, added a small island, and added grass seed to the edges.
The deepest part is just 6 inch. The adjoining pond is 2ft at the deepest with sloping sides to make "beach effect sides" to allow wildlife in,and out.The amount of wildlife now visiting my allotment is tremendous!A wildlife pond,(for me),is an absolute "must"for all allotments.
Lots of frogs, birds, hedgehogs, etc, etc, and very few slugs  ;D.

                    Happy paddling Gem`

                                 Regards,
                                      Mark.

For a really natural looking pond you need to throw a shopping trolley and two tyres in it.
