Ripe ones should come off easily

I've eaten them unripe (because I'm impatient and greedy) and I found them sour, but not unlike a gooseberry or raw rhubarb.

The Purple de Milpa Tomatillos will ripen to... er... purple! However they can be picked while green, when they split their paper casings, and ripened indoors on a sunny windowsill (like tomatoes). They can take a few weeks, but they will eventually turn a lovely dark aubergine, almost black, and they are delicious.

mmmm  thank you for the Purple de Milpa Tomatillo link jennym and also the link for the recipes - the salsa ones look very tasty ...  think I will have to have a go ...

is it too late to sow them now?  will have to go find seeds  locally if so ...

I have seed to spare, FL. I have your details already so I'll get them off to you tonight. There's still plenty of time to sow - I put them in the same category as toms, peppers, cues and the like.

Boohoo, my tomatilloes have been going great guns, popped into the greenhouse today at lunchtime to find they had all be decimated by the frosts ... :(

Ah well, time to sow some more ...
The impossible is just a journey away ...
