Well - for the one who never panics, I've been doing quite well.
Shallots planted in the all-new clean bed on 18 Feb. Come 28 March - not a sign.

But...............................strain your eyes!!

Hi Tim,
all good things come to those who wait,  I  planted my shallots (bulbs saved from last years crop) on 10th Feb, but I covered them with a fleece blanket , until the weather warmed up a bit a couple of weeks ago, they all seem to be sprouting well now, just like yours.

I was a bit daring and planted my shallots out in February, so they have had to endure some awful winter weather.  I covered them with fleece for part of the time, so I hope that has protected them a little bit.  Will take the fleece off this week I think, and see what is happening. Hope they are okay as it is my first attempt at growing them.  busy_lizzie

Mid-Feb to March is fine.

Remember that they LOVE feriliser!

Should be OK, my saved ones were planted in Feb and are showing now. Seeing Tim's protection is a reminder to get the CG's and carrier bags in place.

Would chicken pellets be appropriate Tim?

Debs

...and mine are still in brown paper bags :-\

must get them in this week...

Tim is that wire netting you have over them? To protect from the birds?

I always plant my shallots in mid april. They grow faster and healthier up here in the north midlands. I did this last year and had a very fair crop from them. I have alot left over. So they will be going in also.

Be kind to slugs and snails!

Curryandchips

Technically mine will be doing the same Snail, but they have been 'resting' in compost trays for about six weeks to flex their roots !!!

Mine were planted last week and are already beginning to shoot.

Moonbells - you may well be right. B-y things - never in their own garden!

My shallots that I thought had been eaten by foxes or carried away by the pixies are in fact now growing through, I'd lost them as I'd not planted them in a straight line - teach me not to use string! Whoohoo!
