A friend in North Carolina sent me this mail this morning:

I  found a hummingbird nest and took pictures all the way from eggs to leaving the nest. Click next at the bottom of the pictures. There are 5 pages in all. It took 24 days from birth to flight.

Alishka. Wow and Wow again. What fantastic pics and to see the babies growing day by day is just awesome. I had to go back and have another view.

Really something, eh? There are lots of hummingbirds in NC & shops sell special hummingbird feeders - a sort of sugar solution you put in them, as I recall. I've been mailing this neighbour of my son's since I met her last year. Their properties are all heavily wooded but the bird had nested close to the house. I'm pleased she sent it to me.

Incredible Alishka.
I couldn't believe it when I saw the toothpick. All the pix were so big and in focus.
Don't know what's more astonishing - the hummingbirds or the camera!
Ok, the hummingbirds win.  ;D
