Moving the topic on walking sticks and ferrules from the 'swap' section, I said I'd post pics of what I'm doing.
When I actually took stock just now, I see I have next to nothing that I'm not still working on! I no sooner finish something than I've given it away!
Anyway, I'll post a few sticks and things I'm working on.
What do YOU do when you get the time?

I tend to use the natural shape rather than carve figures. A dog is a dog, but no two pieces of wood are natuarally the same.

Fascinating hobby Ken..   I have a work colleague who makes walking sticks but he uses horn to make the handles.  He carves them with old dentist drills and makes the most amazingly life like animals as handles..  What a skill.

Left over bits can make paper knives.




Or menu card, snack label holders.

Waste not, want knot. The twiggy bits can be interesting too.

Bits from an old pallet can give a bird a home.


So. What do you do?

Horn is always popular for handles but is getting harder to find. The BSE crisis has prevented sheep and cows growing old, so we don't get the larger horn these days.

Sat one day behind the Computer...thinking!! What Can I do...that is interesting.

Found a great Site over New Zealand...always been Interested in the Maori Culture and History.

They  offer a Free online Education Programme.....So I,ve decided to Learn Maori ......got  the rest of my life  to do it so there is no Rush and I,ve recieved a few E. Mails from Question,s Posted on their Site....very friendly People.

Mike, you never cease to amaze me.
I would never have guessed in a million years that a Brit living in Holland would learn Maori as a hobby.

Doing all sorts. Collecting late Roman coins (nothing like ancient craftsmanship), trying to write a novel. 48 000 words done, 30-40 000 to go. If my brother can do it successfully, so can I!

I did a course at college for Flower arranging, then followed on with a master class,
difficult,  also learning Italian, and i collect nice old glass, much to my husbands dismay  we have to keep it on the move from one cupboard to the next strange aren`t  i.

Is that just glass, Rosebud or are you into porcelain and pottery as well. I ask 'cos I have an encyclopaedia of both. If you have markings your stuck on I might be able to ID some of your collection.
