Oh there are, Eric. There are indeed.  If you`ve ever been to Anglesey you will know that when an English visitor enters the village shop, the conversation in english suddenly stops, and the assembled customers (there are always a lot in village shops in Anglesey) suddenly start discussing him or her in Welsh. This happened to my wife and me many years ago and I let out several choice welsh expletives.  The resulting silence was very gratifying.

Got mine from Richard Hawley from the Longpigs (fab Sheff band who split a few years ago) - was reading his palm and told him he'd do well to go solo and probably would in the future.  He was a bit put out at this and said "what are you, some sort of f**ckin Mysticmog or something"   He did go solo, playing with Pulp and various other bands, and the name stuck.....

Will get Tenuse to explain her name, v amusing...

Me - I stick to Gavin; very boring - but I am eternally VERY grateful for the fateful coin coming down "tails".

My parents were looking at a huge stone tablet in St Machar's Cathedral in Aberdeen, with the names of all the pre-reformation bishops.  They liked two names, and tossed a coin - tails got me Gavin; "heads" would have been Aeneas!!!!!!!!!!

All best - Gavin

Jeez Gavin if that coin had fallen the other way, I think it would have been grounds for patricide (spelling?).

First time I've noticed this thread.....don't really know why I chose mine.....wanted some sort of connection to gardening....so potato seemed an obvious choice....I also want to grow these in the Spring....and I always seem to feel warm so that's probably where the hot bit came from.....I just thought it was a cool  8) name!...you know....a bit too hot to handle!!..hhmmm.....most inappropriate really for a little old grannie who now gets her pension!!....I'm obviously still a bit of a rebel!  ::)

Really enjoyed reading your reasons though.....H.P. (a bit saucy too)

Mine's a bit obvious - I live in Surbiton, have an allotment and at the age of 25 feel I can just about get away with the 'girl'! My real second name is a bit unusual to use online but basically is Somerzetshire for being good at 'teasing' wool!

25!  Pah!!  Does that make you officially the youngest lottie holder on this site??

good_life_girl

#52
Sorry! I don't normally own up... if it helps I'm not the youngest plot holder on my 'lotments?! Plus according to friends and family I'm 25 going on 45! I'm just lucky enough to have a job that doesn't require too much time and attention!

Mrs Ava

oooooooooo, puts me in with a chance then!  Hoorah!  hehehe.   ;D

I`ve a nasty feeling that it`s rather like those shoot-em-up games my grandchildren play, where you get safely through level 4 and start again in level 1.  Just hope I`m allowed to keep all the points I`ve accumulated so far.

Wonder what happens when you hit 1000 !?  A fanfare? A giant golden leek? Admiral status?   ??? ;D ;D
