Hello All

I have warthogs, on my allotment! After taking on my new patch i got one bed dug and its looking great for spring, however the second bed that i rough dug(Bout a spade and half deep) now looks rather swampish. Think clay may be a problem

Theres not much of a slope to drain it away so im unsure how best to sort it.

On our waterlogged site peeps seem to do one of three things,

1. Raised beds (that was my option)
2. Dig a moat round to give the water somewhere to drain to. (good if you are under attack!!)
3. Give up and find a new plot ;D  Was never an option for me, but have seen a few do it!

Maybe you could grow rice???? ;D  ;D  ;D

Hi Mellor,

My lotty's at the bottom of a gently sloping site, and I've found that a drainage channel dug around the egde works well. Mind you, that was before todays deluge...

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Thanks All

Hopefully its just down to the recent down pours. Was fine during the summer. If i get chance i may dry and double dig to try and break up the clay ready for the spuds this spring.
