Hi All, after me rantings about ASDA selling goodies cheap, you want to see Aldi for its Bulb prices!! 99p a bag of say 30 dwarf daffs tete d tete, or 99p for 50 crocus, 99p for 20 tulips, really unbeatable prices. well worth a look, also a leaver blower/shredder for £25.

Sounds good, but check out the size of the bulbs! The way lots of places sell bulbs cheaper is to package the smaller bulbs which are less likely to flower in the first season, than more expensive ones. Though I am not saying this is the case here.

Can you get them online? I don't think we have one near here.

I must agree with Palustris here, it is often the case that these bulbs are smaller than from a 'proper' bulb merchant.

Not only that, they are stored in far from ideal conditions, this goes for a lot of garden centre bulbs too, and some bulbs will suffer badly from this, and not survive.

I do understand the value of "size" does matter!! and I also know a "True" bargain when i see it!! these bulbs are so good I've been back and spent another £15 for my mum n dad's garden!! mind you they'll think its still expensive when i say £2.50 for the lot  but thats life with older folks. As regards to condition these are as good as I've bought from anywhere!! And i promise i DO NOT work for them!! just 99p is brill!!
get your barrows filled if you like a bargain and a beautiful garden in March/ April etc. remember you heard it here first LOL ;) ;) ;)

Kevb   Sorry!!! I got quite excited when I was listed as jnr member, I thought  good they all think I am a YOUNG lady and I am past 70 (in fact 71 last Tues)  Then the penny dropped and I realized the real meaning. Regards Lorna.

Palustris and Deeds are dead right.  I got caught out with some agapanthus bulbs from Wilkos earlier this year.  Reckon it'll be another couple of years before they're anywhere near flowering.  Just hope it'll be worth the wait.  As for the ferns and lily of the valley, also from Wilko, they just rotted in the ground.  It's very much a case of caveat emptor.

Lorna and Kev, I got excited too, I also liked the new bit...I haven't been new for years and years... :P

I don't mind palnting small bulbs and then waiting; it probably goes back to the time of the thefts. If they didn't flower when they were new, they were less likely to be taken. But then I've always been patient.

Yes you can buy then on line.  If you google and put in "garden centres" in your area, it will give you lots of different places to buy them from.  Nowadays, all garden centres sell on line.

peter nyssen do good bulbs for wholesale rates - usually minimum buys but say 100 named tulips for £11.00, crocus, around £6.00 per 100 and lilies from £8.00 per 10 - I have used them for a few years now and find them really good value. They have a pretty good selection - crinum powelli for £2.00, lots of alliums and they do quite a few bare-root perennials such as phlox maculata, salvia nemorosa, penstemon, sour grapes etc. I find most garden centres a bit expensive as clumps of 10 tulips just look mean - it is great to be able to put 30 in a pot for really decent displays.

Where do I find them? I  can get Crinums in the market for £1.75 (or that was last year's price anyway) but £2 still sounds good.

ALDI is the place for the other bulbs, (not crinums) and the size is on par with anything else on the Market!!

Have to agree with you KevB and many thanks for the tip. Checked out online and garden centre prices, but needed milk etc today so went to Aldi - not been for months - and there were the bulbs. Got daffs, tulips, crocus, mixed narciss and tete a tete for £4.95 in total, good sized bulbs in good condition. Can't go wrong and they'll certainly brighten my lottie borders. Being a Welsh Lottie it already has a swathe of naturalised daffs at one end  :D

repeating myself again- truly great value - i spent a whopping £112 last year but a great big box arrived of literally hundreds of bulbs - enough for me, my children, my friends - good ol' peter nyssen

Got the catalogue, prices look great, but no pics so will have to use my imagination with the good descriptions they offer!
