i have grown three varaties of chillis and one pepper variaty this year, all seem to be doing ok.

My habanero flowered well, with many flowers and i now hvae some good size chillis however some flowers fell off despite being pollinated watered. i wondered if this was the plant making sure it had enough energy for the others??

also, when picking one jalepeno and a habanero whihc both looked ready, they werent very hot. why is this, im under the impression that both these should be hot and the habanero should be VERY hot.

Cheers.

I picked 2 chillies (cayenne) yesterday and ate one straight away raw.  There was hardly any heat in it whatsoever.  I tried the second one tonight and it nearly blew my head off.  My mouth's still on fire!!

Pick one and eat it the next day is my advice :-[

I read somewhere once that the heat of chillies can be affected by the amount of water they get. If you leave them to really dry out, it seems to get the heat going. I know I neglect mine terribly and the ones that are supposed to be hot get very hot. Not that I know what I'm doing, really. My jalapenos seem to be quite mild so far. Hope they improve for you.
