I recently ordered some potatoes from Kitchen Garden  and was sent carlingfords as a replacement.....because they had a cold store problem with other varieties...
anyone else have the same problem?
Slightly disappointed because I have already planted another 2kg of carlingfords!

You need to do a swop WSL.  Maybe someone on here has something different.  I'm not buying any specially for Christmas as you have to buy too many eg about £6.00 worth so I'm going to try planting some of my early spuds and see if I can get any for Christmas that way.

yep, me too - i have saved some kestrel and some carlena for planting soon - I am going to chance it and plant striaght into my dry sandy soil and cloche the foliage when it appears. I can't help but notice how healthy and vigorous the left over volunteers from the previous year are when they appear on my plot so I figure that as my soil is well drained and they do not have to contend with winter wet (East Anglia - semi-arid) I usually dig and eat the previous years spuds along with this years and they are fine.

Could they be grown in a dustbin or in a large compost bag in the greenhouse?

Cheers

Yes I should think so.  Mine will be in a big pot but outdoors

I was going to cover mine with fleece when it gets colder (and when the next part of my postgrad loan arrives :P) would I have to take it off each morning to prevent blight or would it be ok to leave it on all the time once the weather turns?

Oh good! I was hoping that would be the answer ;D Thanks ;D

Just so I know for next year, what's the best way ti keep some earlier so they're still good for planting now for Christmas?
