Mimi

Just read about this on Yahoo news Aqui  :'( ... Very scary for all you London peeps.Wonder if it has anything to do with London getting the 2012 Olympics  ???  Or just  plain evilness.. either way what a dreadful thing to happen.

Now, don't get carried away till we know more about what caused it. It was apparently due to a 'power surge'.

Still, really bad timing after the Olympic bid announcement.

aquilegia

the latest says bombs. lots of them too.

No coincidence being day after olympic announcement.

I'm really trying not to panic.

Mr Aqui's ok, at least.

Justy

watching on the telly.  Originally said powersurge but fact that at least one bus has exploded too makes it almost certainly terrorist.  Horrible. Reminds me of watching on September 11 2001 and wondering what was going to happen next.

Mimi

Didnt know that 'power surges' caused exposions in buses robsa.

Moggle

Thought of you when I heard the news Aqui, glad to hear that you and Mr Aqui are okay.

Really horrible news, makes you wonder what will happen next!
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

aquilegia

Right I've managed to calm down a bit now. But no one seems to know what's really going on. My office is outside of London, but East London, and home is on the tube. Mr Aqui's in central London. how on earth we'll be getting home???
gone to pot :D

Tulipa

Just managed to speak to my husband thank goodness.  He phoned on his mobile at 8.45 to say he was just going on the underground at Kings Cross so must have just missed it.  I have been so scared and really feel for all the people still trying to find out if their people are ok.

It was too good to be true wasn't it, having positive news yesterday.  Clearly it was meant to disrupt the G8 conference.

flower

Oh my god what mindless morons do these kind of things ,its bad enough to see it on the news but my heart goes out to anyone who has been unlucky enough to get caught up in it all.  I hope you and mr aqui get home safe and sound and glad to know that your husband is ok tullipa
i am an angel really honest  wink wink

aquilegia

Tulippa - you poor thing. You must've been so worried. Glad he's ok.

I don't think it's got anything to do with G8 - surely then it'd be in Scotland? I reckon it's serving as a taste of what we'll get in 2012.

What the hell is wrong with these people? How can they kill, maime and disrupt the lives of other people like this?

Piglottie

Tony Blair has just had a press conference and confirmed that it is the work of terrorists.  BBC News have also reported that a statement found on a website states that the work is by a European Al Quida group - but they are waiting to confirm if this is true.   Its believe the target is the disruption of the G8, ie disruption of western democracy  ???   The Police are asking people to stay where they are for the moment and to not try to move around London.

Blair says the G8 will continue, although he will be going to London this afternoon and then back up to Scotland for this evening.

Thoughts and prayers are with you all down in London, especially those still trapped underground from the blasts.

Yellow Petals

Aqui and Tulippa, I am so glad your news is good.  So happy for both of you.

This leaves a horrible cold feeling running through ones veins of just what will happen next and who is responsible.

My brother works in London at times so my mum (Rosebud) tracked him down on his mobile this morning, but thankfully today he wasn't in London.  All is well.

The moment I read how the people from the train explosion exited the station onto a bus which then exploded, I knew it was terrorism and nothing else.

As Aqui says, what the hell is wrong with these people?  Is it the start of the dreaded retaliatory attacks from the ME we've all been "waiting" for?  :-[

I was expecting something a lot larger and more professional from that quarter. That being said, all sorts of people are linked with them in a very loose network, and some are rank amateurs. Remember the shoe bomber, trying to light a bit of fuse with a match? Whatever the aim and whoever did it - and the lesson of history here is that it's foolish to lead to premature conclusions, it's going to result in infinitely more being spent on security scares and false alerts than it cost to do the bombing.

I am by london bridge and things are a bit hectic. The army have been deployed at leicester square

one of the buses was almost certainly a suicide bomber

al quaida have claimed resposibility

Most mobile networks are unable to come so find a landline if needed - although any i have tried to call are dead or engaged

There have been a lot more bombs found but are not being reported as they ave deactivated them

Mrs Ava

My darling Ava works in Old Street, so quite close to it all.  I didn't hear about it until I was on the treadmill at the gym, and saw a newsflash.  Couldn't believe my eyes, thought it was one of those programs like Cutting Edge showing what could happen.  I telephoned my darling, and he is fine, and grateful for the motorbike as it means he will be ferrying people to home as most of his staff live in London and all are stranded.  To be honest, I would be happier if he would do his 'taxi' service, then come home to me!

My brother in law is in Hackney and he reports a large line of buses all parked up outside his office!  Driving around Chelmsford at about 11ish, lots of buses were pulled over and there were a lot of bus maintenance peeps about, going over them - better to be safe than sorry huh!

Words fail me.  >:(
My sympathese to those injured or worse, and their families, and sending brave, stay safe, vibes to all of those in the affected areas as they try to get home.

Yellow Petals

Good news on the Ava front, EJ.  A huge relief for you.  Thank goodness.  Tell him to get on that bike and get home!

SpeedyMango

I have heard from just about all my friends who work in the City, saying they're OK. The bus in Tavistock square went up right outside one friend's office - blew the top deck wide open. He's OK but he bus and the passengers are a mess, apparently.

Some people are being evacuated from offices very close to the incidents, and sent home in taxis, others are being told to stay put.

Currently at least 7 explosions, including two or more buses.

I expect mobile phones don't work as they'll have switched off the cells in the City - the Madrid bombs were set off by mobile phone.

I hope everyone else is OK and can get home tonight.

return of the mac

My relief for all you london peeps too, take care

I was cursing my tv as i watched the news reports- that interview with the cheif police- he gave sound advice- what peeved me was that he told media not to speculate on the cause- then next question asked was exactly that. I fail to see the benefit of speculating and reporting hearsay. The BBC at least should have stuck to the facts.
I LOVE OP AMPS!

shaolin101

The streets around here are dead - like a ghost town.

London Bridge station is packed though with people trying to get somewhere.
