Calling all experienced allotmenters/gardeners -

Where do you buy environmesh/equivalent or fine netting( reasonably priced ) to prevent cabbage white butterflys laying eggs on any brassicas. I have thought about fleece but as our site is very exposed I would probably have difficulty keeping this in situ. I realise this will be more expensive than fleece but hopefully will last longer.

Forgot to say I have googled at present Kays horticulture seem to be the cheapest I can find. I will need a reasonable amount 5m x 20m minimum or equivalent that is why I am looking for suggestions.

Thanks

spikey

hi lady try ....................www.toolspot.co.uk they do a 2M x 10 M NETTING for £1.99  :D :P

Nice try, spikey, but that's not 'mesh' - won't stop the 'whites'.

LoL - for pegs, I much prefer the (again, more expensive) 'trident' type to the 'barbed' ones, which tear hell out of the material.

The best material I have found is scaffold netting. This is made from a very durable material, and is close enough to prevent anything getting through. The cheapest place I know to buy it is SCREWFIX, a trade supplier, the cost is £50 for a 50x2 metre roll.

The other option, which I have done, is to wander around the building sites, and ask nicely if they have any damaged netting they are throwing out.

I recently got some from ferndale-lodge.co.uk for the same reason. I think it was £14.95 for 15'X7'.

Forgot to mention that only fleece & mesh will ban flea beetle & carrot fly too - I think?

Hi all,  :D
try DAX products, they do a 9 metre by 2.1 metre of very fine strong  mesh  for £20 , they will send it to you & you pay them after delivery ,very trusting  ;DUse your search engine to find them.

Do you mean cut a chunk off a stick of rhubarb & pop it into the hole when transplanting the seedlings?

Kays Horticultural. I find it good value and often they sell products like fleece and netting in widths greater than one can get from garden centres. Postage is cheap and they have not let me down on delivery. I am a Kay's fan.
I haven't said this before but I'm going to say it now..I like double digging!
