Oh blimey RC if I found bits of tile I'd be sticking them back together.  The hearth in my dining room was in bits and I had to glue them all back together before re-tiling.  It took me ages but looks good so I'm pleased I made the effort.  I have five fireplaces in My Victorian house, plus one flue in the kitchen where I now have my range but the chimney is causing me probs at the mo at it's damp and we don't know why.     I have some Victorian fireplace tiles which I bought and which had been in storage since Victorian times.  The manufacturer is still going strong  :)  Here's a pic.  Naughty of me to keep my seedlings in the dining room but all the other rooms were full  ;D

A very nice fireplace wardy - and where else are we supposed to keep seedlings at this time of year.  Personally, I think its the children that need rehoming during spring to give me more room for my seedlings  :)

I ruined the top of the cabinet by putting seed trays on it.  I used food trays then put the seed trays on those but some water got through and wet all the wood through and it's all gone manky.  I have to cover it with a cloth now when I have guests at my B & B as I serve cereals on it etc  Woops  ;D
