Was weeding among onions and accidently disturbed one small one and noticed its roots and base of bulb covered in what i believe is white rot. Cannot believe it - so frustrating!! >:(

Theye are Sunshyi yellow planted last october. i tried a few othes nearby which all came up so easy and yes had rot as well.

Is there nothing i can do to stop the spread to the rest of the crop?

NO.
Just be as careful as you can in lifting some surrounding soil with each bulb & dispose carefully - NOT on the heap!

Many commiserations. That's out of bound for alliums for '9 years'. I'm now having to grow in raised beds.

HDRA have a Fact Sheet on it.

PS And this too.

My sympathise.  Have it also, rampant on our site!  I am one of the few who perseveres.  Leeks do not seem to suffer, and spring onions are in and out so quickly they seem to do okay.  My winter planted alliums tend to do better than spring planted.  I noticed some of my garlics are begining to look questionable so may have a test dig.  :'(

Thanks emma, i remember your posts from last season on your white rot :(

At the end of last season i had a few whith 'the rot' but leeks and garlic were fine, these onions are over other side of plot and have so early in the season, thats whats so disheartening.

Tim - I over ordered the onions and shallots this year and was going to dispose of the excess but at the last moment planted them in a raised bed also, fingers crossed these survive!
