'90% pork' (with 5 E numbers).

But why is it 80% gristle??  Clever ploy. I've just tried 4 'authentic' ones & I wonder why I bother.

tim-a better substitute is kabanos,smoked polish sausage-no gristle and finer flavour-its a fairly thin one-a fatter one has a name..beginning with 'p'
but i cant bring it to mind-its another polish one tho...
both very good!

...yes,its a real job...

tim

Is it of similar flavour, kitty? Like chilli & paprika?

kitty

its not absolutely the same but i use it as a good substitute for chorizo for the same gristly reasons as you may want to!-and in the wee small hours i remembered the name of the fatter sausage-its pronounced zeeveska......

honeybee

Kitty are you thinking of polony? :-\

kitty

natty-tescos(kitty spits.but finds them useful at times......)morrisons..virtually any deli.....waitrose,..if you cant get it i shall send you a sausage of it!!!!!!
honeybee-no,i talk polony.wait-no-i talk BALONEY!lol!
no-seriously-polony is completely different-kabanos has a lovely smokey flavour-and zeeveska is the same but stronger-more garlicky-polony is quite bland compared......
happy kabanos hunting!

ahh but it will depend how big your tesco is (also spits blegh) we find that morrisons sometimes have them if we're lucky!

Its worth the hunt though, they are nice :)

I shall even give them a try this week.!  Rosebud.

So glad I raised this - led me, at last, to find a site which offers free-range chorizo.  Thanks for the pointers.

Yes - 'the best in Spain' - at £32/kg - plus postage. Shame.

And, just to cap it - supermarket Peperami - "108% pork". Some clever folk out there??

kitty

o tim-try kabanos or zeveska-i'm sure you'll like it! ;)

Tim    My local deli makes chorizo and it's hot, hot, hot.  I first had it Chorizo in a village in Portugal where they bake it in the centre of a crusty lump of bread in a communal oven.  Delish.  That wasn't tough or gristly so probably the stuff we get over here is just a poor imitation stuffed with cheapo ingredients
I came, I saw, I composted

Tulipa

I have bought kabanas in Sainsburys too.

Diana

But what do you do with yours??? ::)
Re vera, cara mea, mea nil refert

Tulipa

I never get to do anything with them because they disappear from my fridge as soon as they are spotted!  Just eaten as they are as a snack.  I'm sure they would make some delicious recipes if I got the chance.  Cassoulet type thing I would think, some sort for warming beany casserole, or a pasta or potato salad?

kitty

i do that too-i also put them with a savoury rice-served with warm chunky bread-or curried rice served with garlic brwead......my tums rumbling now! ;D

Just had our first KABANOS. In cassoulet.

It's KABANOS from now on!!

kitty

tim!
i'm so glad you like kabanos ;D-we use it wherever the meal calls for chorizo-there is one drawback tho.its very difficult to keep them in the fridge without nibbling!
in fact...
theres one in at the moment..
i'll just go and see if its.er...okay... ;D ;)
