Solar fountain

I don't have room for a pond in my garden but I do have quite a few frogs and toads.  Last year they had to make do with a very shallow dish of water which kept drying out so this year I've invested in a small solar fountain which is much deeper.  It's working a treat so now I'm hoping to see the wildlife making the most of it.  So far all I've seen in it was a woodlouse - how on earth did it get in I wonder? - which I had to rescue and return to the compost bin!  Here's a pic.

That looks great !  You have done a good job - Is it shallow enough for birds to bathe in ??  They love to bathe, in all seasons.  Hopefully, you will get frogs and other wildlife visit you.
:D
Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.

Thanks, Marianne.  It's only about 4 inches deep but I doubt any bird would be silly enough to bathe in it - I've got three cats!

It's mainly for my frogs and toads but who knows what else it might attract?

...yes,its a real job...

Georgie

Yep, the birdy is indeed dribbling water which makes a lovely soothing sound.  I'm hoping to buy a smallish carex (or similar) do go behind the fountain which will hopefully look more natural.  Don't think I've got room for any bullrushes, though!

Where is the solar fountain situated?   It's just the thing I'd like to put in my bird water tray as it gets very murky.  A little fountain might keep it a bit clearer maybe.

It looks very pretty indeed.  I have a pebble like that in mine too  :)
I came, I saw, I composted

Hi Wardy.  Yes, I thought the fountain would keep the water aerated and thus fresher but I'll keep you posted.  And the stone is for the toads and frogs to bask themselves on and also so silly insects who inadvertently fall in have a chance of getting out again - if they can fly that is!

The fountain is next to my compost bin but the solar panel - which comes with a fairly long lead (about 3m I think) - is staked in my border, although it can also be attached to a wall or fence.

I bought it from the Natural Collection and I think, but don't quote me, that you can just buy the solar panel and the pump if you don't want the fountain.  They have a webite.
