Liquorice

I have bought some seeds.  I had not realised it was a legume.

Rather frustrated that most liquorice has wheat flour added or if not it is very expensive.

Does anyone have any experience of growing it.

I understand that the first hurdle is to get the seeds to germinate.

There are a number of threads dotted about the internet on the subject but very few replies.   Rather frustratingly none of the people who started threads have returned to them with an update about how they got on.

Found a website which says it is important to get the right temperature for germination.  Except it fails to say what the correct temperature is. 
How frustrating is that?

I tried it once.  I got the little red seeds to germinate quite happily in modules in the spring, but they were very slow to get going!

I planted them out after the frosts had passed and they lasted a few weeks and then gave up trying, withered, and died.

I haven't tried it since.  I think you might still be able to get liquorice crowns from a company in Yorkshire, but I can't remember the name.

I cannot believe it.

Wrong time of year as you are supposed to sow spring or autumn but I am impatient, and I may loose the packet of seeds.

So I put a few to germinate yesterday. Found advice which said soak for two hours and then put in the fridge for 3 weeks.  Well two have already swollen and germinated in the fridge.
