First proper gardening day of the season!

Spent a couple of hours at the allotment this morning- still too wet to dig but got a row of broad beans in and did some sorting out/planning. Then spent the afternoon clearing out pots and beds in the garden at home. My back is aching and my fingers are tingling from the nettles but I feel the season has started at last! Sadly my spade handle broke so I'll have to go shopping this week!

Glad that you had a good day Caroline and got things done, here too and yes tingly fingers too.  When you go shopping do you still have to go the long way round or have they sorted a bridge?

I am always a bit wary of planting beans out too early as the often end up as pigeon fodder as there is very little else around with fresh young leaves to eat.

The beans in the plot next to me consist of bean stalks with leaf stump protruding from them.

What a sad sight TG.  Mine are individually covered by a bottle cloche.  It's not the pigeons here (they prefer kale and peas) but the voles that bite clean through the stems.

I put plastic bottle cloches over all but the biggest one so hopefully they'll be protected.

Galina, we've got a footbridge now and they are working hard on the road bridge but it'll be  at least the end of the year before it's finished. :(
