Hi all :)
I sowed some celariac seeds 14 days ago, they have germinated but are very scrawny looking & seem very frail :'( Is this normal for celariac ??? They are from Dobies & are called brilliant. They are growing in seed compost in a tray on the windowsill.  Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

i just put my celeriac in yesterday

the secret seems to be as soon as they have germinated, to keep them as light as possibly, but cool, to make sure they grow sturdy rather than spindly.

if you can pick them out and transplant into pots, it may be worth planting them in deeper?
maybe one of the 'oldies' can shed light on this

Mine looked a bit iffy to start with too - very frail looking. Now much sturdier

Yes to potting up, deep.

Can you give them protection outside?  Down south, they would benefit from full light.

Adrian-can`t help thinking you have jumped the gun a wee bit. They may be OK but re-sow over the next couple of weeks if you have any left.

Greetings
Just looked up my records from previous years
I've grown Celeriac,Monarch from Suttons before. Planted 3/02, potted on 30/03, planted out 6/05 result good crop, decent size.
They need a long growing season, and being kept damp as its a marsh plant. Decent size means only half a bulb to a stew. LesH

I think a long season is the key, keep going! ::)

Hi all :)
Thanks for the help on this query, I guess I may have been a bit hasty in worrying about them , I shall try & be a bit more patient  ::)

My instructions were that it was an erratic germinator. That explains why I've got about 200 seedlings two weeks after sowing lol.
