Just come across this concept on another thread,  sound a great idea.  Making jam is such a faff.

Does anyone know if I can make it directly in the jam jars?

When our children were still at home we used to make quantities of microwave jam.  The answer to your question is NO.  It will inevitably boil over, and if you've got a powerful microwave, it's quite likely to shoot out of the jar and hit the roof of the oven with some force!

We use a large pyrex mixing bowl.  Whatever you choose, the top needs to be much wider than the base.

I use a five litre Pyrex jug and only 500g fruit. I also use Dr. Oetker 3 to 1 Gelfix which needs much less sugar and only 3 minutes rolling boil. My 900w MW is fine as long as I keep an eye on it and open the door briefly if it looks like the jam is close to the top. Fruit from the garden is frozen then made into MW jam when needed. Quick and easy, although I have to rely on friends bringing me the Gelfix from Germany.
