Gooseberry Bush

I found a Gooseberry bush on my allotment today (it was hiding under a forest of weeds!). But it's got some sort of pale green mossy growth on it. It's not a fine dust type of growth like mildew, more of a curly moss-looking thing. Any ideas what it is and what I should do with it, trying to use organic if possible. There is quite a bit so if I was to cut it out there wouldn't be much of a gooseberry bush left!

Sounds like lichen. Shows the air around you is nice and clean. Ignore it, it does little harm, except that it does provide a hiding place for aphids and red spider mite and such like. In that case the best way to remove it is with a jet of water!
