cloches

I have bought some of the cloches from Lidl as mentioned before on this message board.  I found after I had put the connecting pieces onto the rods or semi circles, as they are called on the box, and I carefully bent the them into an arch the connecting pieces broke.  I have solved the problem with plastic tubing and a core of wood dowelling.
I just wondered if any one else has had this problem.

I put one up today - one of the rods split, so I put it in the other way (not sure if upside down is the correct phrase!), also, a small bit of the connector broke off one. One rod didn't quite bend properly, so that went in upside down and looked better.

Below should be a picture of the lidls one. Behind which are the 3 corrugated roofing sheets used to form protection.

And talking of cloches - I can't cope any more with the long things, so I pay the earth for individual ones.

The 'barn' cloches use the now unobtainable (?) Chase fittings which I was given 45 years ago. I have replaced the horticultural glas with polycarbonate. Very muddy here! Needs anchoring well or it gets airborne. About 24"x19".

The smaller ones are bought-in at about £5.50 - twin wall DIY. About 18"x16". Or, because it hinges at the top, 24"x7".

Well, after a week, the lidls cloche did not survive the wind. I didn't have time to fix it, only went to the plot to add to the compost heap.

only put my lidl cloche down yesterday. still up this morning when i passed by on my way to work.

hopefully they will be ok, i did anchor them with one hoop above the cloche, as well as tent pegs around the edges to stop them lifting up

hopefully, the rustling noise they make when the wind does go through will deter the cat that has been using my beds for a toilet ::) as well as any naughty birds.....i can but hope

Yep, my Lidl cloche joining tubes disintegrated too. Very flimsy indeed.  I fixed them by sliding the poles over little bits of dowling rod about 6cm long (thanks for the tip muhare). This seems to have done the trick. Anyway it's up over carrots, parsnips and radish and warming up some of the rest of the bed for early spuds. Weighted downs with lots of stones - hope it's still there at the end of the week!
