I was clearing out my pantry today...(new kitchen sink to be fitted tomorrow  :blob7:, and I was cleaning under the sink and the pantry floor), when I found a brown paper bag with the remnants of last years crop of potatoes.  8 potatoes each with a largish single root between 1 and 3 inches long.

Can I just plant these? Maybe in a different part of my veg plot to last year. Or would it be better to buy new??

I have packed them away again away from sunlight.  I'm not sure of the variety as my Brother inlaw gave me the 6 original seed potatoes last year.  Each potato is about 2 x 3 inches.

I dont think there is any harm is trying :)
I remember on our 1st year on plots one of the allotment holders started late due to illness and just bought reduced spuds from morrisons and planted these as they had gone to seed. In fact this crop was better than some of us who has 'proper' seed potatoes :)

I would suggest however you keep them away from your other spuds in case there is any virus on them

You  will be much safer to buy new. It has been suggested you keep them clear of others in case of virus, aphid are the biggest thing to spread virus so you will need to be a very long way away. Some sites will ban people who use ware potatoes because of this threat. Seed potatoes are grown in Scotland at an altitude where there is lite if any aphid.

You could always grow them in bags or pots but they do need to be in daylight or the shoots will get bigger and more spindly :happy7:
