Congratulations!  Last year our rather ageing starter flock had a really thorough moult, and didn't start laying again until well into February.  So mid-Jan is pretty good!

Five of our new hens had started to lay by the autumn, and so we've had at least a couple of eggs a day throughout December.  The four others, from a later 2012 hatch, hadn't started.  But today we got 6 eggs plus a softie, so it looks as though two of the younger hens have also come into lay.

Thank goodness that the days are getting noticeably lighter.

We think that 1 of our Speckeldy's has been laying through the Winter but last week on a few days we had 2, one being slightly smaller. They are such good girls & hopefully the 4 bantams will be at it soon.

My 9 Isa Browns and 3 Light Sussex have been moulting for 10-11 weeks now, producing 4-5 eggs per week maximum between them.  Had all their feathers back for over a month now and are a very healthy size and looking very well.  Hopefully not too long now but as this will be their second season, they will be replaced when the moult starts again late autumn.

some of my young hens have been laying this last week or so.  I have had six tiny blue eggs from my Black Araucana bantam, one egg which I think is from the Buff Orpington and two other eggs from my old hens.  I have a lot of cockerels though and will need to take them to market when the weather improves.
